It is estimated just under 50% of Australians will experience a mental health disorder in their lifetime and 1 in every 5 people will experience a mental health challenge this year.
Organisations that respond appropriately and effectively will experience better outcomes for both the individual and the organisation itself.

Standard mental health first aid
The Standard Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults how to provide initial support to other adults who are developing any of the following mental health problems, experiencing a worsening of an existing problem or mental health crisis:
Developing mental health problems covered:
- Depression
- Anxiety problems
- Psychosis
- Substance use problems
Mental health crises covered:
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Non-suicidal self-injury
- Panic attacks
- Traumatic events
- Severe psychotic states
- Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
- Aggressive behaviours
Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.
