Youth refresher MHFA
The Youth Mental Health Refresher course is a 4-hour face-to-face course that allows people who have previously completed a 14-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid course to refresh their knowledge and skills. For people who are Accredited Youth MHFAiders, the refresher course offers an opportunity to extend their accreditation for a further 3 years.

Who should take this course?
Any adult who has previously completed a Youth MHFA course can attend.
Participants have from 6 months before their accreditation expiry to 3 months after to complete a Refresher Course.
If you have completed more than one Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course and proceeded to complete accreditation for each of these (e.g., Standard MHFA and Youth MHFA), you will have a separate accreditation for each course. Therefore, you will need to complete a Refresher Course for each of these. Each accreditation will have a separate expiry date, which will correspond to when you need to complete the Refresher Course.
Course content
The content of the Youth MHFA Refresher course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.
You will:
- Gain an understanding of the latest research in the mental health field
- Learn the 3 key actions for helping someone feeling suicidal
- Work through complex mental health first aid interactions
- Practice mental health first aid skills.
